Build a Working Game is a hands-on game-design activity that invites children to create a game that someone else can actually learn and play.

Children develop their own playing area, game pieces, tools, action cards and rules before testing their game, finding problems, making changes and creating a new version. Printable templates for counters, game pieces, a spinner, number/action cards and other game-making elements are included to support the process while leaving the ideas to the child.

Rather than following a ready-made game, children are encouraged to imagine → plan → make → explain → play → notice → change → try again.
